Kerala: Kochi Cyber police have arrested 20-year-old Aaqib Hanan for circulating a pirated copy of Malayalam film “Marco” on social media. According to the police, the accused had downloaded the video from a website called ‘Ogo Movies’.After this, he posted a reel on Instagram and asked his followers to message him directly if they wanted to watch the pirated film. Through this, he used to share the link of the film, which is a violation of the Copyright Act.
Action after producer’s complaint
The police started the investigation on the complaint of the film’s producer Sharif Mohammad. He alleged in the complaint that pirated films were being circulated on social media, which could cause huge financial losses to the producers. The producer gave information about the social media accounts to the police, which helped in identifying the accused.
Strict action against piracy
The Infopark Cyber Police Station has registered a case in this matter and further investigation is underway. However, the police have not yet found any evidence that directly links Aaqib Hanan to making a pirated copy of the film. But, he has been arrested for circulating pirated content
Commitment to protecting the rights of filmmakers
Earlier this month, in another case, Kochi police arrested three persons who were distributing pirated copies of the movie “ARM”. Officials say that strict measures will be taken against piracy to ensure protection of intellectual property and rights of filmmakers.
